Case Study: Bespoke Kitchen Renovation in Harrogate City Centre
Kitchen Renovation Project Overview
We were approached by our client over a year ago as they were looking to transform a dated kitchen in their stunning Edwardian property. They didn't want a new kitchen off the shelf; they wanted something special, A truly bespoke kitchen that would respect the authenticity of their home while giving them the function they required and maximise their available space.
The original kitchen featured a large U-shaped (Gally or parallel-style) layout with a significant area of wasted space in the centre. Two deep alcoves, typical of period homes, weren’t being used effectively. With high ceilings, traditional skirting, and curved architectural details, the home had beautiful features—we just needed to bring the kitchen up to the same standard. Having designed and installed many bespoke kitchens in Harrogate, we were excited to see how we could help.
The New Kitchen Design Brief
The goal for our kitchen designers and fitters was to create a bespoke kitchen that matched the grandeur of the Edwardian house. Making full use of the available space while retaining the character of the property. Particular attention was paid to the alcoves and curved walls to ensure the design flowed naturally throughout the room.
Key features of the Bespoke kitchen included:
- In-frame style cabinetry with handmade, five-piece shaker doors for a classic and timeless look
- A projected range cooker section, creating a central focal point with a grander feel
- A large central island, designed to function both as a breakfast bar and a practical home-working area
- A compact 450mm dishwasher, cleverly fitted to maximise usable space
- A traditional Belfast sink, tying in beautifully with the home’s character
- Tall fridge freezer and washer/dryer units seamlessly integrated into each side of the kitchen
Coffee Station & Hosting Area
The customer was a huge coffee enthusiast, and part of their daily ritual included making and enjoying a high-quality coffee from their Sage coffee machine. To enhance this experience, we created a dedicated coffee station within the kitchen layout. This featured a custom-built cabinet complete with a glass-fronted drinks section, ideal for hosting guests and beautifully displaying their drink selection in an elegant, practical way. It’s now a standout feature of the kitchen—functional, stylish, and perfectly suited to the homeowner’s lifestyle.
Smart Storage Solutions
One of the standout features was the clever use of one deep alcove to create a tall, pantry-style cupboard. While not a walk-in pantry, its 500mm+ depth allowed us to build a unit approximately 2.7 metres high—large enough to house a washer and dryer, drawers for vegetables and bread, and custom-height shelving tailored to the customer’s storage needs.
The result is a highly functional, well-organised kitchen that enhances the flow of the home while preserving its original charm.
